GameMaker web games

Your GameMaker web build, in every store

Made your GameMaker game for the browser? Deskifier ships that web build to Windows, macOS and Linux, with Steamworks, a settings menu and save backup, and uploads every release to Steam, Epic and itch.io.

GameMaker already ships to desktop. Here’s when we don’t.

GameMaker’s Windows, macOS and Linux targets are proven, and its Steamworks extension covers Steam well. If you ship with those today, keep going: they’re the better route for a game built for desktop.

Deskifier is for GameMaker games that grew up on the web:

  • Built and tuned for the web target, released in browsers or on portals like CrazyGames and Poki, often with JavaScript extensions for portal SDKs or a web backend.
  • No second target to chase. Web and native targets don’t always behave identically, and fixing the same game twice is time off your next update. Deskifier ships the build you’ve already tested.
  • The release chores: SteamPipe, BuildPatchTool and butler from one button, and Mac builds signed and notarised with no Mac of your own.

What your GameMaker web game gets

One build, tested once
The web build players already run, in Chromium on all three desktops. Your web-specific fixes carry straight over.
Steamworks from GML
Achievements, stats, cloud saves and rich presence through window.deskifier.steam, wrapped in a small JavaScript extension.
Signed and notarised
Players open your game without an “unidentified developer” wall on macOS or a SmartScreen warning on Windows.
A settings menu you didn’t build
Window mode, resolution scale, monitor and volume, opened from your own pause menu with one call.
Saves that survive
Browser-storage saves backed up to a visible GameSaves folder, restored after a reinstall, and exportable by players.
Every desktop store
Steam, Epic, itch.io and signed direct downloads from the same GameMaker build.

GameMaker web build to Steam in three steps

  1. 1
    Build for the web
Create the web build you already ship and upload the folder, with its index.html.
  2. 2
    Add a JavaScript extension
A few functions that call window.deskifier.steam, exposed to GML. Test with App ID 480 first.
  3. 3
    Build & push
Try a free dev build, then push each platform to Steam, Epic and itch.io.

Frequently asked questions

If your game runs well on them, yes: native targets and GameMaker’s own Steamworks extension are the standard path. Deskifier is for games where the web build is the real one, and shipping it everywhere is simpler than keeping a native build in step.

With an extension that includes a JavaScript file for the web target. Its functions call window.deskifier.steam, and your GML calls them like any other extension function. Guard for window.deskifier being missing so the same build runs on the web.

No: that extension is native and targets GameMaker’s desktop runners. In a Deskifier build, Steam comes from window.deskifier.steam instead.

Yes. window.deskifier.game.openOverlay opens it, so a Settings button in your own menu can call it through the same extension.

Dev builds are free on all three desktops. You pay per store you ship to.
