Web2Desk's pitch is speed: paste a URL, get desktop apps. The catch is everything after the download: the conversion is one-shot, so signing, updates and the evolving native surface are your problem from day two.
For a quick internal wrapper or a demo, a one-time converter is genuinely convenient, and Web2Desk made that flow accessible before most tools did.
A product you distribute has a longer life than its first build. Certificates expire, Chromium ships security patches, users expect the app to update itself, and sooner or later you want a tray icon or native notifications. A static converted bundle has no answer for any of that except converting again and re-distributing by hand. Deskifier treats the desktop app as a living product: rebuilt on current runtimes, updated silently in the field, and configurable without re-downloading anything.

For a throwaway wrapper, yes. For a distributed product, the subscription is buying the parts that recur: hosted updates, current runtimes, signing infrastructure and rebuilds. Those are ongoing costs someone pays either way; the question is whether it’s a vendor or your calendar.
Point Deskifier at the same URL, configure your icon and window, and ship the new installer to your users. Because the old app has no update channel, existing installs must download once more; from then on updates are silent.
They keep running the browser engine frozen at conversion time, which stops receiving security patches, and unsigned or ad-hoc-signed builds increasingly trip OS protections like SmartScreen and Gatekeeper. It’s the same story as any unmaintained wrapper.
Point Deskifier at your URL and get a signed, self-updating desktop app. Free to try.
